Cat Weatherill and Daniel Morden
Queen of the Planets
Sunday 14 September
The first night audience at Crook Hall were enthralled by Cat Weatherill and Daniel Morden's telling of The Queen of the Planets, a tantalising and deceptively simple tale about love and destiny. A strange young boy is journeying through the countryside, searching for answers. One dark night, lost on the moors and with a storm raging around him, he seeks refuge in a lonely cottage. Inside, a pale woman seems to be engaged in normal household tasks, but things are not what they seem.
The audience was spellbound, you could have heard a pin drop. Afterwards they said it was "really good" and "spooky" and "wonderful". The way the story revelaed a shape as it returned to the same point was impressive, one person called it "seriously disturbing".
The performers too found the venue to be "super" and intimate: particularly appropriate because many of the features of the hall such as the fireplace and the open beams were echoed in the story.
The storytelling events were part of a Gods and Monsters storytelling tour. More details are on their website. Cat Weatherill has her own website: www.catweatherill.co.uk
